Petit Pays

Nicknamed "the turbo of Africa," Adolphe Claude Moundy " Petit Pays" is a star in Cameroon. He wrote hundreds of songs, including huge success not only in his country but also throughout Africa.

His live performances with his group Les Sans Visas, developer of young talent, have contributed significantly to his international reputation. Before music, he was headed for a professional football career.

Singer / songwriter but also a dancer, Petit Pays was very young his nickname, a literal translation of his surname, Moundy became famous in the late 1980's when he was nicknamed "The King of Makossa Love" or "The defense counsel women" or "Rabba Rabbi". His success culminated in the album category F (a record in Cameroon, 50,000 copies were sold the week of release) that reveals his style combines zouk and makossa dancing and lyrics sung in Duala, and pidgin French. He is accompanied by two groups Les Sans Visas and Angels Petit Pays.

Petit Pays is with Manu Dibango one of the major figures of the Cameroonian music of the last thirty years and is one of the most critically acclaimed artists. Since 2009, he was president of the legendary football club Caiman Club Douala he managed to get first division in a season. He resides in Douala, in the district Maképé, including a street named after him.[endtext]

Sekouba Bambino

Sekouba Diabate "The golden voice of Guinea" was born in 1964 in Kintinya near Siguiri in Upper Guinea to griots parents. His mother was a famous singer, especially with the title "Apollo" backed back then by her son.

He worked with several local bands of Siguiri until 1979, when he received the award for best singer of Guinea at age 15. He then joined the national orchestra Bembeya Jazz at the express request of the Guinean president Sekou Toure. There he acquires his nickname for Bambino is not confused with its namesake, this guitar virtuoso of the orchestra.

In parallel on a solo career, he joined as a guest then as a permanent group "Salsa Africain" well known as Africando. After his album Sinikan was released in 2002, he became known by a wide audience all over the world and became one of the best exponents of contemporary Mandinga music.[endtext]

Manu Dibango: Age 77

Manu Dibango was born in December 12, 1933 in Douala, Cameroon. was raised in a Protestant family in Cameroon, before leaving for France in 1949 where he took his first lessons in playing the saxophone.

In 1956, he left Cameroon to try his luck in Belgium. He made his debut as a stage jazz musician and a singer when he met Joseph Kabasele in Brussels who hired him as a saxophonist for his band, The African Jazz. The two friends recorded several 45 singles, all well received in Africa, where they went on tour. He became the conductor for Nino Ferrer, accompanying such artists as Mike Brandt and Dick Rivers.

But success came in 1972 when his song "Soul Makossa," sold several million copies worldwide and became a hit in the United States. In the years 1970 and 1980, Manu Dibango recorded several albums in mixes, jazz and African music, including "Super Kumba" (1974), "Africadelic" (1975), "Mélodies africaines" (1983), then Afro-electro-funk with "Abele Dance" (1984). Chaining between tours and recordings, Manu Dibango has not forgotten where he came from and is regularly committed to the African causes.

Manu Dibango continues to build bridges between continents and musical genres has produced since the beginning of his career more than thirty albums and several compilations of his work. He is currently recording his next studio album to be released in the fall of 2011.[endtext]
