Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

"Don't Stop Believing" is a song by the American rock band Journey. The song debuted on their 1981 album Escape. It is today considered the band's signature song.

The song is well-known for its lyrics and its distinctive detuned piano introduction, described by All Music Guide as "one of the best opening keyboard riffs in rock." Many compilation albums carrying the track (including some budget Journey "best of" releases) and several reissues of Escape list the track as "Don't Stop Believin'" although the original title includes the "g".

The opening stanza refers to "Just a city boy/Born and raised in South Detroit". While South Detroit is geographically correct, locals usually refer to South Detroit as Downriver.

Popularity:
The song reached #8 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, and #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also peaked at #62 on the UK singles chart. The song also has appeared in a number of film and television series, including The Wedding Singer, Monster, Shrek The Halls, The Comebacks and Scrubs.

In recent years, the song has received a major resurgence in popularity. The first evidence of this came during the 2005 World Series, when the Chicago White Sox adopted it as their unofficial second anthem (along with "Let's Go, Go-Go White Sox"). In 2006, the song made appearances on both Family Guy and Laguna Beach in the same week. It surprisingly jumped to #8 on the iTunes charts after the unexpected exposure.

In 2007 the song also gained additional press for its use in the final scene of HBO's The Sopranos. The scene from the series finale "Made in America" was later referenced and parodied by Family Guy, The Daily Show, ESPN, Celebrity Apprentice, the opening sequence of the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards and a campaign video for Hillary Clinton. The song also again charted on the Irish Top 20 singles chart. Steve Perry was initially hesitant in allowing the song to be used in the Sopranos finale.

This song was also used in the a Scrubs episode.

Live at the California Jam 6th April 1974 at the Ontario Speedway Los Angeles.

We all came out to Montreux
On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didn't have much time
Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky Claude was running in and out
Pulling kids out the ground
When it all was over
We had to find another place
But Swiss time was running out
It seemed that we would lose the race
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
Making our music there
With a few red lights and a few old beds
We make a place to sweat
No matter what we get out of this
I know we'll never forget
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky

Tribute to the Extraordinary Eva Cassidy ~

I discovered the profound beauty and talent of Eva Cassidy just recently while recovering from surgery. Laptop surfing, I was searching for something to take my mind off the emotional anguish and physical pain of my recent wounds. Somehow I stumbled across the videos of Eva Cassidy's Live performance at Blues Alley.

From her first notes, I was stunned and captivated. And comforted. Her musical selection, interpretation, range, enunciation, sustaining notes, phrasing, rich timbre and vocal acrobatics are exquisitely overwhelming. Her power and softness are a constant marvel. Her delivery is perfection.

The sheer beauty of her music reaches very deep inside me and yet simultaneously transports me far beyond myself.

It is rather foolish to do what I've just done (and have never before felt compelled to do); put together a simple, inadequate slide show. Especially when we are blessed with the great and haunting footage of Eva's live performance at Blues Alley. But it is my humble, yet passionate thank you to Eva Cassidy for sharing her unforgettable music, art and spirit. Her voice is a conduit to something bigger, more profound and extraordinary than words can express.

My heartfelt appreciation goes to Barbara and Hugh Cassidy for bringing Eva into our world and to Chris Biondo for believing in Eva and making it possible for us to still hear her.

For more information about Eva Cassidy's incredible music, art, life and legacy of inspiration, here are two beautiful websites created by members of Eva's family:

Breakin' is a 1984 movie directed by Joel Silberg. It was also released under the title Breakdance: The Movie in some international locations.
The film setting was inspired by a German documentary entitled Breakin' and Enterin' set in the Los Angeles multi-racial hip-hop club Radiotron, based out of Macarthur Park in Los Angeles. Many of the artists and dancers including Ice-T (who makes his movie debut as a club MC) and Boogaloo Shrimp went straight from Breakin' and Enterin' to star in Breakin'. Ice-T has stated that he considers the film and his own performance in it to be "wack.
The story is a retelling of the 1961 film West Side Story[citation needed], (Kelly's agent James has a West Side Story poster directly behind his desk). Breakin' reverses the genders of the white/Puerto Rican couple. Although Kelly and Ozone are clearly a romantic couple in the sequel, and although they peck briefly in the first film (during the song "99 1/2 Won't Do"), the love scene in which they become a couple has been cut, and now exists only as a glimpse during the end credits.
The music score featured the hits, "Breakin'... There's No Stopping Us" by Ollie & Jerry and "Freakshow on the Dance Floor." Breakin' was followed by a sequel, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Never cease to worship You.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth,
Let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King; Mountains bow down and the seas will roa

I sing for joy at the work of Your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand,

His world was characterized by violence, alcoholism, and abuse, but young Donnie McClurkin found a safe haven in his church, Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, Assemblies of God. It was there, at the age of nine, when he made a commitment to Christ. Throughout his troubled youth, amidst the strife of daily life, he learned to stand on the promises in the scripture. "A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men." (Prov 18:16) "I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it" (Rev. 3:8). Donnie was born, and raised in Amityville, New York. Because of a God-given gift of music that ran in his family, Donnie formed the McClurkin Singers with his siblings, and a few close friends in 1979. It wasn't long after that when Donnie began to feel a calling to preach. He went on to meet gospel-legend Andrae Crouch, who became a mentor to him. Through that relationship, grew a friendship that would shape the entire course of Donnie's future.

On this recording, Jonal sings (he sang with O.K. Jazz shortly before and after the death of Franco). Shiko Mawatu on guitar. Shiko told me the other night that his first professional guitar playing job was touring with...DOCTOR NICO! Wow!!

This video: In Kenya this song is known as "Sina Makossa." According to sources at Africambiance.org this tune was originally recorded by a Kenyan/Tanzanian group called Les Wanyika -- it can be purchased on a CD called 'Kenya Dance Mania', which has some other great East African music on it. Lokassa ya Mbongo does a nice job playing Professor Omari's original rhythm riffs from that recording, while lead guitarist Shiko Mawatu follows the lead of Les Wanyika guitarist Ngereza's original but brings a lot more skill to the playing. Listen to Shiko to hear what Ngereza really wanted to do.

You can follow discussions like this among the savants at africambiance.org. I'm grateful to "antony" and "adoyo" there for their insights on SINA MAKOSSA.

This is the first of two video's that have just been delivered from the hot new album by C.R.I.$.I.$. "Mr. Swagger.."

The song "Play On" focuses on the artist's upbringing, family background and music career.

The song also offers words of encouragement to those that wish to pursue a career in music. The key is persistence.

Essentially saying.....
Now today..Let me praise you, you are the one who created all things out of nothing,
Now today let me dance for you..You whose name is not to be taken in vain
You who dwells in heaven
You who is the owner of all things...etc
